The concepts and designs have taken on new meaning in the era of portable electronics. With new technology there is charger for almost everything imaginable. The devices are widely used, and their progression over time is huge.
The first battery charger was for the car. The idea came from Gaston Plante, a French physicist that invented the lead acid cell battery in 1859. Though, it was years later that the idea became what it is today, he was the pioneer of the concepts. It was Waldemar Jungner that discovered the Nickel-Cadmium battery in 1899. The Swedish scientist developed this product and it was on the market by 1906. These men of science had ideas before their times. Imagine what they would think of today progress of their once simple ideas.
Chargers for lithium-Ion batteries are almost a necessity in society today. Being used in everything from mobile phones, to laptops, and many other portable devices, they are a must for most. They were introduced in 1991 by Sony. The twenty year phenomenon in the making was originally theorized in the 1970s. Nickel-Metal Hydride was created in the 1980s. This battery comes in all sizes and is probably the most common household battery used today.
Battery charging devices are a common item to own. They come into play with the invention of rechargeable batteries. The idea behind it all was not only to save money but to save time. Samsung F210 Purple Is The Next F210 Addition To The Samsung ‘Stick’ Range

Since Samsung entered the UK mobile phones market some seven years ago they have used their far east headquarters to consistently release new and innovatively designed models that have been envied by other manufacturers.
Innovations such as the Samsung X830 which was the first ever ‘Stick’ phone designed to be worn on a lanyard around the neck as opposed to being kept in a pocket or handbag, the X830 was a music orientated phone that was designed with similar dimensions to many normal MP3 Players, however, the deice also offered fully functional call and receive functions as well as an integrated digital camera making it a device that negated the need to carry an individual camera, MP3 Player and mobile phone.
The X830 was a very light handset weighing just 74g and measuring only 85mm in length and the newest release from the ‘Stick’ range follows these dimensions closely.
The new Samsung F210 Purple Edition only adds 2g to the overall weight and 2.7mm to the length but it packs in far more features and upgraded software.
The camera has been upgraded from 1.3 to a 2.0 megapixels with a flash for poor light condition photography, a digital zoom for close up picture capture and support for video recording and playback.
The memory of the F210 is far larger than the X830 and offers 1GB of storage space, enough for up to 1000 music tracks plus with the use of MicroSD cards it can be expanded further to cater for extra pictures, video clips and music files.
The internal music software has been improved and users can upload tracks from their PC via a Micro USB cable and then arrange and organise them into playlists to suit genre, mood or tempo whilst the sound output has been upgraded to produce 3D sound effects to enhance the listening experience, there is also an integrated FM radio for listening to new music and keeping informed of local weather conditions and news.
The Samsung F210 still features the trademark swivel opening of the X830 which involves turning the main display screen around 180 degrees to reveal the keypad and activate the handset. Another feature that has stood the test of time is the metallic dial pad situated just underneath the main screen, this is used for navigating the menu system and can be used whilst the phone is closed to operate the music player.
The F210 Purple may be the first of many colour variant releases as UK retailer Phones4U have secured an exclusive contract with the manufacturer and pop band Girls Aloud to sell a branded model of the handset featuring content such as the bands latest single, themes and ringtones. There are also plans, as with the original X830 to release the model in a range of new colours including Pink, Blue and Black versions.
The new Samsung F210 is a welcome edition to the ‘Stick’ range and will no doubt tempt some X830 users to upgrade their mobile phones, it offers similar specifications and dimensions but the features have been upgraded to compete with a growing market in music orientated phones. Samsung Announces the Arrival of the Omnia i8910

Gone are the days of carrying a heavy bag full of your laptop, still digital camera, HD video recorder, speakers, cell phone and tangled up cables to connect all the devices together. One of the newest phones on the market, the Samsung Omnia i8910, puts all of these devices together into one, slim cell phone. The Acme i8910 is a “smartphone” that uses the Symbian S60 5th Edition operating system.
This system, version 9.4 of the Symbian operating system, is the most recent one used by Nokia, Samsung, and other Symbian licensed carriers. It supports higher resolution screens better than QVGA can (320×240 pixels). Plus, the Symbian S60 5th Edition gives a layer of touch support as well as some sophisticated user interface elements. This impressive phone has a large, glass touch screen that shares the phone’s face with a camera used exclusively for video-conferencing. A second camera on the back of the phone has eight megapixels and can also be used for HD video recording. This high quality camera contains a Xenon flash module that guarantees to brighten-up any low-light pictures.
Even though the Samsung Acme i8910 is a multi-media machine, it still has all the staples of a cell phone like GPS, Wi-Fi, eight or 16 GB of internal memory and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. It features only three hardware buttons on the front face and has no D-pad. The phone’s eight megapixel handset carries the Anycall brand, and appears to have a touch screen display similar to Samsung’s Omnia that operates on an updated Samsung TouchWiz UI. Now, the specs do seem very close to the Acme i8910′s predecessor, the Samsung Omnia, except for the option of 16GB to enhance the memory. Some mobile phone experts have stated that the Samsung Omnia i8910 is comparable to the Apple iPhone. Another feature not yet found on any other phone is an HDMI port. High Definition Multimedia Interface is the current top contender for home theater cabling. With HDMI, you will have perfect, uncompressed, high-definition images at 1080p and 7.1 surround sound. Plus you’ll achieve this with only one cable coming out of your cell phone.
If you want to create and play high-quality videos on your Samsung Acme i8910, you can. The phone houses DivX technology that compresses video in a fast and convenient way, while giving you videos that aren’t fuzzy and unrecognizable. DivX movies offer the same image quality as DVDs but at one-tenth (1/10) the size. So DivX is a perfect match for movie downloads on a cell phone where the bandwidth is usually limited. The Samsung Tocco Ultra and the Samsung Omnia HD are the latest entrants in Samsung’s line up of touch screen smart phones.
Hardware
The Tocco Ultra also known as the S8300 has a lot of panache and slickness. Tantalizingly slim, the sturdy red and silver chassis of the phone is eye-catching and gives a nice solid feel. The Samsung Omnia HD on the other hand is more prosaic in its silky black encasing with an aerodynamic appearance and curved ends.
The Samsung Tocco Ultra is a slider phone with a slide in keypad. The i8910 Omnia HD is candy bar shaped tablet phone. Unlike the Tocco Ultra which has both a virtual key pad enabled touch screen and a physical input keypad, the i8910 HD proffers only tactile input. The Samsung S8300 is more petite than the Samsung Omnia HD and fits into the palm more comfortably.
Software
The Samsung Tocco Ultra uses the TouchWiz interface which has fascinating animations and vibrantly colorful icons. The interface supports a widgets screen that can display up to 7 widgets at a time. However the interface at times becomes sluggish. The Omnia HD uses a Symbian S60 software coalesced with Samsung’s Touch Wiz interface and widgets. Its touch screen uses capacitive technology and is more responsive than the screen of the Tocco Ultra.
Features
The Samsung Omnia HD has better multimedia capabilities than the S8300. The Tocco Ultra has an 8 Mega pixel camera with auto focus, face and smile detection features and an LED photo flash. The Samsung i8910 has an 8 Mega pixel camera, located in the rear, enabled with auto focus and face detection, smile detection feature and a single LED flash. In addition it has the business card recognition and geo tagging attributes.
The Samsung Omnia HD can record 720p HD video at a speed of 24 frames per second. The Tocco Ultra has an ordinary video recording capability. Both phones have secondary video call cameras.
The Samsung i8910′s audio player supports audio file formats like MP3. The music player in the S8300 supports audio formats like AAC and WMA apart from MP3. However one of the prominent failings of the Samsung Tocco Ultra is that it is devoid of the 3.5mm audio jack for headphones. You will have to use the bundled adapter for mini USB instead. The 3.5mm audio jack is present in the Omnia HD. Both phones have Bluetooth connectivity.
The Samsung i8910 also has superior internet browsing mettle. Armed with a 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, a 5.6Mbps HSUPA, Wi Fi technology, a congenial browser and wide 3.7 inch screen the phone provides propitious internet experience. On the other hand the S8300 browser struggles to make web pages readable on its small 2.7 inch screen as it does not have a zoom aspect.
